All junior boats should be removed from the Yacht Club no later than Labor Day weekend unless they are still using them for Fall Sailing.
Our goal this summer is to make sure every child has a fun experience and becomes a better sailor. Our juniors can enhance their sailing skills by daily participation in our program at the Club, in outside regattas and the 3 inter clubs. Building on last year’s program we will continue to strengthen the curriculum and emphasize greater cooperation and teamwork from all sailors. Weekly communications will be emailed to you. These notices are also posted on the Junior Bulletin Board. Exceptional sailors and instructors will be recognized with a weekly award.
Head instructor, Mr. Jordan Scheer, who has his master’s degree in education and is from Island Heights brings to us his extensive sailing experience on Barnegat Bay. Ms. Lexi Cuneo, Ms. Blaire Lorenz, Mr. Nick Maida and Mr. Philip Reynolds all experienced sailors/instructors will also return.
Its not too early to start thinking about boats as well. Good buys can be found on the web for all the classes. Don’t forget SPYC is looking to build up its 420 fleet to give the older kids a more social/well rounded sailing experience. This year we will have specified rack or land placements for all boats classes and every boat will be given a 2009 SPYC sticker.
If you know of any new members looking for an application or news about the program, please direct them to the SPYC web site “Junior Sailing tab”. Please give us a call if you have any questions.
